What does it mean to be a Church Member?

Church membership involves many things, but, simply stated, church membership involves these three things: affirmation, oversight, and submission. A local church affirms that a person has faith in Christ, we see this in Matthew 16 in the loosing and binding passage. The local church is there to attest to the faith of its members. The local church gives oversight to a believers discipleship, we watch one another and spur one another on to Christ-likeness. The one-another statements of the New Testament find their practice through the oversight of the local church, the members. Lastly, the local church involves a Christian submitting to the care of its members and the leadership of its Elders. Submission involves allowing a particular local church to guide and care for you as we collectively aim to become more like Jesus in all areas of our lives.

Attend Starting Point

Your first step is to join us for Starting Point. Starting Point is the first step in the pathway for you to move from simply being at Port City on the weekends to truly being a part of Port City.

Apply

After talking to one of our members and if you are a baptized believer in Jesus Christ, please fill out the membership application. The application will help us to get to know you and to start a conversation. The application can also help you to process what God has done and is doing in your life.

Deep Dive

Now that you have kicked the tires, met some leaders, and told us about yourself, we invite you to take a deep dive into what Port City believes, how we do things, and what membership would involve. This is your chance to see it all up close. More information will be given once you have submitted your application.

Elder Interview

Lastly, after you have completed the previous steps, an Elder will meet with you and talk through everything and give you the space to ask any further questions. After the interview, the Elders will meet to discuss your membership application.

Membership Extended

After the Elders meet, and should they approve your application, you will receive an invitation to accept membership into Port City Church!
